When a Walmart lawn and garden supplier saw potential to expand their digital presence, they leveraged Walmart Luminate Digital Landscapes to identify growth opportunities and develop a solution.


Being one of the top performers in the market, this supplier was surprised to discover that their online presence within their category had room to grow. One of the brand’s top products was performing well below the category Session Share average. The brand marketing team hypothesized that their hero image and branding on Walmart.com and the Walmart app were the culprits, and this caused their product to be overlooked on the digital shelf. Customers were spotting the product, but not navigating to the Product Details Page (PDP), and so the product was not making it into their carts. The team reimagined product imagery and messaging to showcase unique selling points and planned to validate their hypothesis with an A/B test. Their suspicions were confirmed when they ran the test and saw their conversion rates skyrocket.

In a second case, the same supplier noticed that a brand’s digital penetration was significantly below expectations and sales were slightly declining. Armed with data from Digital Landscapes, which reveals insights into the digital pre-purchase behaviors of online Walmart shoppers, they determined that most shoppers were finding their products online on the Walmart mobile app. Unfortunately, while many shoppers were purchasing their brand in-store, they were not converting as well online. By retargeting their ad spend and increasing bid size with a new Walmart mobile audience in mind, the team saw a dramatic improvement in their Return on Ad Spend (RoAS).
